mesotherapy

ˌmɛsə(ʊ)ˈθɛrəpi,ˌmɛzə(ʊ)ˈθɛrəpi,ˌmiːsə(ʊ)ˈθɛrəpi,ˌmiːzə(ʊ)ˈθɛrəpi/

noun

  1. (in cosmetic surgery) a procedure in which multiple tiny injections of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, etc. are delivered into the mesodermal layer of tissue under the skin, to promote skin and hair rejuvenation and the loss of fat or cellulite.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy, also known as 'skin-prick rejuvenation' is designed to give your skin or hair a boost to look brighter, firmer and healthier.

It can be used to effectively target problem areas such as treating Alopecia (female or male hair loss), help reduce wrinkles, sagging skin, improve cellulite and to re-contour the body. Dr Stolte in Cornwall uses a specially designed Mesotherapy gun which makes the injections nearly painless and there is very little downtime, so you can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment. The Mesotherapy Gun was specially designed for the treatment of painless hair rejuvenation, especially for clients with hair loss or hair thinning, other treatment options are of course facial rejuvenation, such as wrinkles, fine lines or cellulite.

Mesotherapy involves tiny superficial injections injected directly into the area of concern.  For the treatment, we use the Mesogun; a medical device that uses fine needling to target skin tissue at different depths to maximise the effectiveness of the treatment.  The skin or scalp is boosted with a tailored cocktail of vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, and amino acids designed to encourage rejuvenation, aid poor circulation and suppress any inflammation that can cause skin damage.  Because the injections penetrate the mesodermal layer of tissue where the treatment can be most effective, collagen and elastin are also stimulated, helping to further boost the skin's metabolism and encourage longer-term cellular renewal.

Mesotherapy can be used to:

  • Treat alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss in females and males

  • Remove fat in areas like the stomach, thighs, buttocks, hips, legs, arms, and face

  • Reduce cellulite

  • Fade wrinkles and lines

  • Tighten loose skin

  • Re-contour the body

  • Lighten pigmented skin

Mesotherapy for hair loss & rejuvenation

Thinning, weak hair, exposed scalp areas or excessive hair loss can be a concern for many people and there is a perceived social stigma attached to baldness which can lead to a drop in confidence.  It is believed that 1 in 3 women suffer from thinning hair during their lives and up to 70% of women over 70 experience a hereditary form of hair loss.  The causes or hair loss are numerous and can be linked to genetic tendencies, hormonal changes, a result of a medical condition, severe stress or caused by a deficiency in your diet such as a lack of iron or B12 or an imbalance of thyroid hormones etc.

There are a number of treatments on the marketplace which claim to help to restore lost hair and improve the condition of the hair and scalp.  One such treatment is Mesotherapy; so what's it all about and can it help you?

Mesotherapy can help to reverse the problem of a weakened scalp and damaged hair tissues by healing the tissues and scalp to encourage new, healthy hair growth over a period of time.

Mesotherapy for the scalp works in the same way as it does for the face and body; a rich cocktail of minerals, amino acids, vitamins and enzymes are injected into the scalp at the point where the tissues of skin are found.

Blood circulation is increased in the scalp, which helps to prevent further hair breakage and new hair follicles are stimulated to grow with the injection of essential nutrients.  One of the benefits of this treatment is minimal downtime and you can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment.

The treatment will be tailored to meet each patient's individual needs following an assessment and an in-depth discussion with Dr Stolte, at Medfacials in Truro, Cornwall.  As such, the length of treatment and number of recommended treatments will vary but most patients who follow our treatment plan will notice an immediate cessation in hair loss to the affected area and a considerable change within 12 months to the quality and look of your hair and scalp.

How many mesotherapy treatments will I need?

Each treatment plan will be tailored to meet the need of the individual.  As such, the number of treatments will vary as will the length of each treatment.  Patients can expect an immediate cessation in hair loss and visible results within 6-12 months by following our treatment plans.

On average, it can take around 10 to 12 sessions to complete a full course of treatments. This intensive plan begins with treatments over 1-2 week intervals, then they grow more spaced out over time. Once treatment is complete, it may be recommended you return occasionally for long-term maintenance of your results.

What results can I expect from mesotherapy?

Besides the immediate cessation of hair loss, you can expect new hair growth along your existing hair line as well as hair that is denser, healthier and has an improved texture.

What areas are targeted by the treatment?

These treatments directly target the hair and scalp, primarily at the point where the tissues of skin are found and where follicle growth can be boosted.

How long does mesotherapy take?

The length of your treatment will depend largely on your individually tailored treatment plan. On average, you should expect the full treatment to take a minimum of 30 minutes, but your doctor can help you answer this question with more specificity after your consultation. Regardless, after the treatment, you can get back to daily life, including the workplace, immediately.

Is mesotherapy painful?

Due to differences in scalp sensitivity, the answer this question is highly subjective. To some patients, it may feel no more uncomfortable than a firm, hot massage but others may experience pain as a result. For the latter, we can use a topical anaesthetic to numb the area and reduce the sensation of pain, though you may still feel some pressure during the treatment.

Are there any mesotherapy side effects?

Mesotherapy is a completely safe treatment, with no known long-term side effects. You may experience some swelling or bruising, but this will ease over time. Complications can cause folliculitis, but we prevent this by ensuring aseptic conditions for the entirety of the treatment.

Who can benefit from mesotherapy treatment?

This treatment can help anyone who suffers the effects of hair loss, but results can vary from person to person. Mesotherapy is best recommended for those who suffer from hereditary hair loss or thinning, while others may benefit from treatments that address hormonal imbalances or changes to lifestyle factors like diet and stress.

How long should mesotherapy recovery time take?

Patients can return to their normal activities immediately after their treatment; some mild swelling and bruising may occur but tend to dissipate within a week of the treatment.

How often should I get treatments done?

In order to keep your results for as long as possible, it is recommended that you return for repeat mesotherapy treatments every 2-3 months. Over time, repeat treatments can lead to even more effective stimulation of hair growth.
