Introduction
The term Wrinkle Relaxing Injections is often used to describe the injections of Botulinum Toxin. This comes in various forms and under different names. Other Brand names would be Azzalure or Bocouture. The market leader is still, however, the original Botox® by Allergan which we are using in our Clinic at MEDfacials here in Truro, Cornwall.
What is BOTOX®
BOTOX® is globally the most commonly used brand of botulinum toxin. BOTOX® is made from a purified naturally occurring protein that is produced in laboratory conditions by an organism called Clostridium Botulinum.
How does BOTOX® really work?
BOTOX® works at the point where the nerve connects to the muscle, stopping the muscle from working. Let's explain this further.
Our usual facial expressions are a result of our facial muscles. When we laugh, show expressions, frown, or are feeling angry, our expressions change as a result of our muscles contracting or relaxing. As we heard, Botox or Botulinum Toxin can block the transmission of chemical signals from nerves to muscles, thus stopping the muscles from working.
Botulinum toxin effectively weakens the movement of local muscles temporarily. The effects of Botox are reversible after a certain period of time (depending on dosage and injection location), so that repetition of the injection is typically necessary every 3-6 months.
Other brand names of botulinum toxins are available such as Xeomin® and Azzalure. Botox near me is available by Dr. Stolte, who is working from his clinic in Truro, Cornwall. We have chosen to use the original Botox® & Bocouture® as we believe it gives the best results, depending on the indications.
Important to know, Merz Pharma Group Bocouture® which has been approved by European regulatory authorities for the treatment of upper facial lines, including horizontal frown lines, lateral periorbital lines, and glabellar frown lines. Bocouture IS THE ONLY neurotoxin approved in Europe for this combined upper facial lines indication.
How long has BOTOX® been in use?
We are using Botox here in Cornwall since 2016 but in 1978, BOTOX® was first used to treat squints by weakening the overactive eye muscle. Since then it has been used to treat a wide range of medical problems such as tics, facial spasm, cerebral palsy to name but a few. In the last fifteen years, BOTOX® for cosmetic therapy has become more widespread. The tiny doses that are used make it very safe.
Is BOTOX® safe?
Providing that you do not fall into any of the categories mentioned above, BOTOX® is not only widely approved and is also highly requested for a reason. If you are treated by a certified and qualified provider, there should be no unique risks of having a BOTOX® treatment. Beyond having been used in cosmetic surgery for the past two decades, it has been used to treat a wide variety of other issues, such as excessive sweating and chronic migraines, for a further decade before that.
